Sibawayh

Some Arabic words begin as tiny actions and end up as institutions. A scoop becomes a room (غُرْفَةٌ), a turn becomes a state (دَوْلَةٌ), a guest becomes a fixed social role (نَزِيلٌ). The clue is often hiding in the plural.
